A federal wiretapping program has been found unconstitutional, in a ruling considered a setback for the Bush administration in its ongoing fight against terrorism and civil liberties. The president responded to the ruling today by calling the judge personally to offer his opinion.

Asked what the president said to the judge, White House spokesman Tony Snow said that the president told the judge, “When I want your opinion, I’ll beat it out of you, okay?” Asked if he was paraphrasing, Tony Snow said, “Let’s take this outside. You and me, huh? You and me! I didn’t THINK so.”
